Jang Jae-young misses first inning, gives up 6 runs on 6 hits Samsung defeats Kiwoom for second straight day

    Kiwoom right-handed pitcher Jang Jae-young

(SEOUL) By Jang Hyun-koo = The Kiwoom Heroes, who have turned to "rebuilding," fell two games to the last-place Samsung Lions.

Kiwoom lost 6-10 in its 2023 KBO home game against Samsung at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul on Tuesday.

The gap between ninth-place Kiwoom and 10th-place Samsung, which is riding a three-game winning streak, has shrunk to three games.

Starting pitcher Jang Jae-young was pulled after the first inning, leaving Kiwoom helpless.

Jang Jae-young, who had been shaking off his struggles with his fastball, faltered after giving up a bunt single to Kim Sung-yoon in the top of the first inning.

He promptly walked Koo Ja-roo, and Kang Min-ho followed with a single to load the bases.

After giving up a wild pitch to Jose Pirela, Kang walked to load the bases.

Another walk to Kang gave Jang Jae-young four consecutive singles.

He struck out Kim Dong-jin to put out the fire, but walked Ryu Ji-hyuk again to give up the third run.

With the bases loaded, Jang Jae-young hit Kim Ji-chan in the head with a fastball for an automatic out.

Samsung scored four runs on the six pitches Jang Jae-young gave up.

With two on and two out, Kim Hyun-joon lined a single to left-center off reliever Ha Young-min to make it 6-0. It was his first hit of the game.

Former Doosan Bears pitcher Ariel Miranda gave up seven walks in the first inning against the KIA Tigers last year, tying the record for most walks allowed in an inning.

Jang Jae-young became the second pitcher in history to give up the second-most wild pitches in a single inning without completing the first.

Samsung went further in the second inning, scoring three runs on an RBI triple by Woo Jung-wol, an RBI single by Ryu Ji-hyuk and an error by Kiwoom.

Kiwoom got two runs back in the sixth on an RBI single by Song Sung-moon and an RBI triple to left by "transfer student" Lee Ju-hyung, and scored four runs in the seventh off Samsung bullpen Kim Tae-hoon, but couldn't get any closer.
